Is to provide a place for clean authors to find narrators to create & market audiobooks, amazing wide distribution and a database of clean reads.
Hi, I’m Emma and I have an obsession with cats 🙂 When creating this company, a friend suggested finding a name that resonated with me. Well I love cats and I love retro, thus The Cats Meow!
Cats Meow Productions was started as a place for clean authors to find narrators and to market their clean books. Everyone has their own threshold of what “clean” means to them. This rubric is a sort of rating system similar to MPAA for film. Our Readers and Narrators want to know ahead of time what is in a book, if the content fits with their standards. This rubric allows for people to make an educated decision on the books they want to invest in to listen or narrate.

In general, clean means little to no swearing or blasphemes (absolutely no f bombs) and sexual content is not explicitly described and no sex between minors (if the characters live in a time where they married at 16, they are not considered a minor) and minimal or at least not explicitly described violence or drug use. For more information on our content disclosure, click here.
We have many different authors and genres of audiobooks. The books are not all Christian, though we have many authors who bill themselves as that too. All authors and books are welcome if they meet the clean criteria as described above.
Absolutely! We make no judgements on the books you do outside of CMP. Many of our narrators prefer to only do clean titles but not all. Our Rights Holders and Authors make the final decision on who they want to narrate their book, we’re just a matchmaking service for authors and narrators.
This ranges greatly based on your budget, sales and marketing plan. There are various payment agreement options available such as upfront or deferred payments.
We like to partner with Audiobooks Unleashed for all distribution. Audiobooks Unleashed distributes to 50+ platforms including Audible, Amazon and iTunes and even libraries!
We can’t determine how much you will make but it is set what percentages you will receive. Depending on the payment agreement you make, your narrator(s) may receive a percentage of royalties as well. Cats Meow takes 10-20% in royalties depending on the agreement.
Each platform as well has its own rules for how they pay out royalties, and how much they pay out.
For more information on royalties, visit Audiobooks Unleashed.
First, do you have the audio rights to your book? If you are self published, you probably have your audio rights. If you have gone through a publisher, check with them to see if you have kept your audio rights. If you have not, urge your publisher to reach out to us.
If you do have audio rights, fill out the Author Interest form.
Hello! I am Emma Faye, I am an actor, audiobook narrator and founder of Cats Meow Productions. I started Cats Meow to serve a gap I noticed in the industry, a place for clean reads to be produced in audio!
I have been an actor for film and stage since I was a child and even attended film school in Los Angeles. One of my biggest hurdles to work however was my standards. I am proud of my standards but they did limit the amount of work that came my way and I turned down auditions and offers often. As an avid reader and audiobook listener, I realized I wanted to break into audiobooks as well and it became a bucket list dream. I didn’t pursue that right away but eventually I took voice over classes and with my previous acting experience and training it was a completely natural transition. I booked my first trilogy, The Shadows of Lela by Tessonja Odette only weeks after joining an audiobook narration website. The author and I talked a bit and I sent in a few auditions as she wanted to hear different characters from later books. She loved my voice and I loved what I read in the auditions but before I would accept the contract I expressed that I did not narrate explicit language or content. I was super nervous about the response but Tessonja was amazing and responded positively and told me the extent of the language in the book. After praying and pondering, I decided it was a book I wanted to do. I accepted the offer and recorded all three amazing books.
My first studio was a make shift blanket studio under my stairs, it was very cramped but gave decent sound. I then went about learning to edit and master my own books and it took HOURS!! I knew the basics of editing and mastering and the books taught me real fast that I needed more instruction! After booking a few other projects, I invested in better equipment, programs and training courses and was thankfully able to cut my editing time down significantly. I am also now the proud new owner of a used VocalBooth which is AMAZING!
After working on a few straight royalty share projects and not seeing the return I wanted to see I got to thinking what I could do to help market my books. I want my authors and books to succeed. In my research, I found that there were a lot of readers with similar standards to mine who wanted “clean” books! I was so encouraged by this news and I knew that if I could just tap into that, I could help propel some of the clean books I’ve done to be more successful. Then I got to thinking that there must be clean authors out there who want to do audiobooks but don’t know how to market them either and could benefit from this audience. So after some encouragement from two narrator friends, I set forth to create this audience of clean listeners and platform to connect clean authors and narrators together.
I’ve been so blessed by how this all has come together and the projects I’ve been able to work on. Feel free to check out my samples or learn more about me at www.EmmaFayeNarrates.com
And aside from audiobooks and acting, I am a proud cat mom. Meet my fur babies!
